At Visiting Nurse Private Home Care, the safety and well-being of the seniors we serve are always our top priority. Recently, we’ve seen a rise in new types of electronic scams. targeting older adults, and we want to make sure you and your loved ones are aware of them.
How These Scams Work
Scammers are becoming more creative and convincing. Here are a few real examples
that have surfaced recently:
● AI Voice Cloning:
A scammer used artificial intelligence to copy someone’s real voice. They then left urgent messages for friends and family, asking them to send money right away. Because the voice sounded so real and even included personal details, the request felt legitimate.
● Fake Emails:
In other cases, people received emails that looked like they came from trusted friends or colleagues. The messages claimed there was an urgent bill to pay and asked for money to be sent through Zelle, Venmo, Cash App, or similar services.
Why Seniors Are Especially at Risk
These electronic scams are designed to create panic and push people to act quickly. Older adults, who may be trusting and less familiar with digital tricks, can be more vulnerable to these urgent and emotional appeals.
What Families Can Do
The simplest—and most effective—way to stop these scams is this: Never send money based only on an electronic message. If you or your loved one receives a request like this:
1. Pause and stay calm. Scammers want you to act without thinking.
2. Call the person directly. Use a trusted phone number, not one included in the suspicious message.
3. Double-check before sending money. Ask questions only the real person would know how to answer.
A Message to Families
If you care for an aging parent, grandparent, or relative, please share this warning with them. Even if you’ve already had the conversation, remind them again—these scams are becoming more advanced and can catch anyone off guard.
